3D printed model making for designers – Theo Jones
You can use 3D printing in many ways, such as creating physical architectural models or sample furniture and products. It can be a useful way for designers to test out physically how their design functions aesthetically and structurally– Theo notes, this is specifically useful for product designers. As models can be combined with many other materials, designers can utilise 3D printing to produce parts of their design, but not necessarily the entire design.

A $4K house, 3D-printed in 24 hours
Nonprofit New Story teamed up with construction firm ICON to develop a 3D printer that can construct a four-room house in 12 to 24 hours. Human-built equivalent houses take between 13 to 20 days to build, making this tech a potential game changer for the 1.2 billion people who lack adequate shelter. The team plans to bring costs down from $10,000 to $4,000 per house and build 100 homes in El Salvador next year.

3D SCANNERS
3d Scanning with Agisoft PhotoScan
HEADUS 3D Full Body 3D Scans / Cyber Scans, headus has the latest Cyberware WBXU full body scanning system. The WBXU captures the full body in a single 17 second scan, the four cameras measuring both geometry and colour from all directions at once. Because of the high scan speed and instant feedback, multiple scans are usually taken so that the best can be selected for further processing. Often additional scans are taken to capture missing details, especially if the clothing is multi-layered, such as a long coat or jacket over other clothing, or if the subject is in an “action” pose. The data from these extra scans is then merged into the target scan as part of the editing process
